Frequently Asked Questions

  • That's an excellent question! First, that's disappointing to hear! Many of my clients have shared with me their underwhelming therapy experiences. They have expressed feeling judged, invalidated, misunderstood, or not seeing progress due to therapists being kind but passive or lacking in skills.

My approach is active, warm, empathetic, and focused on fostering a strong connection. I encourage clients to openly communicate if something doesn't work for them, as it is an excellent way to practice navigating relationships healthily.

  • Your privacy is your legal right. I strictly follow all guidelines outlined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to protect the confidentiality of your personal health information. Before your first appointment, you will receive a copy of these guidelines to ensure you understand your rights.

Rest assured, any information you provided, whether on paper or during your sessions, will remain completely confidential. I will never share your details with any outside party unless you explicitly authorize us to do so by signing a 'Release of Information' form.

Sessions are conducted using a HIPAA-compliant and fully secure electronic health record (EHR) platform. This allows you to communicate with me through a private client portal, ensuring your data remains safe and protected, at all times.

  • I work with clients insured by many insurance companies on an out-of-network basis. Sessions may be covered by your insurance as out-of-network medical care— many times up to 90% of the cost is reimbursed. This means that most insurance plans allowing members to go out-of-network for mental health services will reimburse you for our work, according to the payments they allow.

To learn about your specific coverage, you can call your insurance provider and ask the following:

    • What is my deductible?

    • Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health (specifically for CPT Code: 90834)?

    • What is my coinsurance/ what percentage of my bill will be covered after my deductible is met?

    • How do I submit a superbill?

Once you have determined that you have out-of-network benefits you can let me know when you begin sessions. You will be responsible for paying the cost of the session upfront and then I will provide you with a superbill at the end of each month for you to send to your insurance for direct reimbursement.

  • I am not in-network with any insurance panels, however, I can provide you with monthly ‘superbills’ to submit to your insurance for direct reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits. Learn more here.

  • Some clients choose this option even when they have insurance that will cover sessions because they are concerned with privacy regarding the diagnostic or clinical information being shared with their insurance company or 3rd-party insurance management company.

If you’re a self-pay client, your presenting concerns do not need to be considered “medically necessary” or require a formal diagnosis, both of which insurance companies require. Self-pay sessions can be conducted in-office, via phone, or through HIPAA-compliant video software as long as the client is in New York State. Self-pay sessions also can be longer than one hour or have more than one session in a week.

  • Please email or text Jessica as soon as possible to attempt to reschedule. A full session fee is charged for missed appointments or no-show cancellations with less than a 48-hour notice.

A note about this policy: The reason for canceling is often beyond a client’s control (sick kids, meetings running over, last-minute getaway, etc.). I know this to be true as a therapy client myself! The late cancellation fee is not charged as a ‘punishment’(and will not be charged in the events of hospitalization or death of a loved one). You are being charged because that hour of my time is *yours*. And while it might not be your “fault” that your meeting ran long, that time still belongs to you.
